Telogis GeoBase 3.7.1 now available

The latest release of Telogis GeoBase (available for download from dev.telogis.com) features support for HTML 5 and iPad/iPhone devices, including touch and gesture events, such as pinching to zoom, a common smartphone function. Additional functionality is planned for future releases to offer even greater integration with mobile devices, and offer developers the ability to easily provide their users with feature-rich applications accessible on popular devices such as iPads and iPhones.

There have been a number of other key features included with recent releases that are contributing to the growing popularity of Telogis GeoBase as the premier development platform for commercial map applications.

Add stops easily with draggable routes

The Telogis GeoBase JavaScript API now offers draggable routes, allowing existing routes to be easily modified by the user, who simply drags a route to a new point on the map, automatically creating a new waypoint.

New waypoints can easily be removed to undo the modified route. The map and related route instructions can be set to update immediately with the changes, allowing the user to get instant feedback on the time and distance impact of the route change.

Driving time accuracy enhanced with street crossing or U-turn penalties

Time penalties (in seconds) can now be specified for street crossings (such as in the U.S. when a left turn at an intersection forces you to cross lines of traffic) and U-turns to influence driving times as well as improving route optimization.

For example, if the crossing penalty was high enough the route optimization may re-route a vehicle a different way that avoids the crossing in an effort to find the fastest route.

It can be specified that free turns are permitted at intersections with traffic signals, which means no time penalty is applied for those crossings (where traffic signal data is available).

These intersection crossings differ from the road crossing setting that allows a user to forbid or discourage exits from off-street locations that cross a line of traffic.

Greater flexibility with custom key behavior

Developers can now customize the action of the Ctrl and Shift keys for map users, rather than being limited to the default behavior. Previously, holding Ctrl would modify the zoom tool, or holding Shift changed the cursor from panning to creating a focus area. This update allows developers to assign these keys to perform other functions, such as multiple selection of map items or adding custom markers, making Telogis GeoBase applications even more adaptable to the needs of its users.

The default behavior for these keys can still be called even when custom actions have been created.

Updated API to speed up development

New functions have been added to the Telogis GeoBase JavaScript API to save developers time. Rather than manually coding functions, developers can simply call a built-in API to perform specific routines.

Functions added recently include geolocation tasks that locate the user’s current position and follow or stop following them.

Telogis Workbench upgraded

The built-in map import and conversion tool included with the latest version of Telogis GeoBase offers a number of enhancements such as discrete zoom levels, improved indexing of custom data, handling of different decimal formats, and overall performance.

Minor enhancements to improve speed, stability

This release also includes several updates that resolve a number of issues experienced by some users including visual errors, map loading, and ongoing refinements of geocoding for global address formats including Canada, Scandinavia, Mexico, UK, France and Saudi Arabia.

Cookie-less authentication now available

There is now the option to authenticate devices querying the map server using a string variable (token), ideal for situations where a device doesn’t accept cookies or the user has disabled them.

Cookies can still be used to authenticate if required.
